Weekly Challenge - "I Am"

HA! My turn again to come up with a challenge. We’ve had so many wonderful themes by the ladies at Inspiration Avenue, to tell you the truth, I had a real tough time thinking of the challenge word this week.

So far, many of our challenges have been about a “topic” … to create something in any medium you choose about … well, something. So I thought that it would be nice to have a challenge that says something about ... you, the artist. When I first started making art, I constantly hear other artists talking about finding a style that in uniquely you. I have come to know of a lot of artists who have indeed developed a style of their own and once you see an artwork by them, you know immediately who made that particular art!

And so, this week’s challenge is simply “I”

I will make this challenge a little wider by opening it up to “anything and/or everything” about you. For example, think … I hope …, I dream …, I love …, I hate …, I hide …, I wish …, I desire …, I make …, I create …, I think …, I believe …, I was …, I will be …, I want to be …, or simply, I am …

Create something in any medium you choose and tell us how the creation is connected to you. It is something you hope to achieve one day, something you love, your history, your unique style or simply the current you. When you're done, post it in your blog and leave us a link ... we will do the rest :) The dateline for this challenge is Sunday 4th April at 12noon EST.

Now comes the part everyone’s waiting for … the giveaway for April. Every entry to our weekly challenges stands a chance of winning a little something. So happens … that I am also the one who’s doing April’s giveaway! Here it is, a whimsical bookmark which I named “Transformation”. Made with a beautifully etched bookmark hook, a pretty butterfly charm, shell pearls and faceted glass beads.

Good luck and Have fun!

*Just a reminder to Evil Edna ... please leave your email with us HERE cos you won last month's giveaway :))

Weekly Challenge - "My Town"

Now that the auction has come and gone it is time for another weekly challenge here at Inspiration Avenue. The theme for this week is "My Town".
The members and participants from IA are a group of people from all over the globe. I thought it would be nice to learn a little something about the places we all call home.
Where do you come from? Do you live in a big thriving metropolis or do you come from a small rural town? What is unique or special about your town?

Maybe it is the county seat with the best county fair....

Texas State Capital In Austin Texas

Or maybe it is a famous tourist destination.....

Item For Angel Faces Charity Auction

    "Dreams Scrappy Art Tote"

Starting bid is $15.00
Please make bids in $1.00 increments.

Welcome and thank you for stopping by. For this selection you will be bidding on a one of a kind original handmade tote created by me Charlotte Littlejohn (Charlie).
Please leave a comment with your bid and don't forget to add your email address so we can contact you if you win!
I made my original tote because I wanted something artsy to carry my art supplies in when I go on trips. I also wanted to make something that represented my style, something that combined my artwork with my other passions like my love of scrapbooking and sewing.
I create each of my totes to look like a scrapbook page. They measure 12" x 12 " like the traditional sized scrapbook paper. Fabric and scrap paper are so similar in design and can be layered in the same way. For this tote I used the painting of the little girl "Purity" that I painted a few weeks ago. She is transferred onto a fabric transfer sheet, and sewn on layers of fabric in a cute and whimsical way. This tote and most all my totes are embellished with paper flowers, buttons and ribbons, just like a scrapbook page would be decorated. I added the quote " A life without dreams is like a garden without flowers."
The back side is done in the same way. There is a pocket big enough for your cell phone or any of your treasures. The inside of the tote is lined with a nice soft pink floral and I have a heavy interfacing in between each side to give the tote some heft. I made the straps on this tote extra long, (21 inches) so it can be worn easily over the shoulder.
I will pay for the shipping for this auction.

Charity Auction contribution by - Artangel

I'm very excited to be taking part in the Inspiration Avenue team's first ever charity auction, in aid of Angel Faces.

This is my auction piece - "Twelve Butterflies on Red".

This is an original mixed media canvas measuring 6 x 12 x 1.5", created with collaged butterflies, acrylics and coloured pencil.

Butterflies are a favourite theme of mine at the moment. I love their shape, and their symbolism; they are thought to represent the human soul in some cultures.
I am also fascinated by collections of all kinds, and these remind me a bit of one of the display cases in the natural history museum!
The starting bid for this canvas is $22, packaging and postage are free. All proceeds will go to the Angel Faces charity.
Only bids in US dollars will be counted, and bids must be in round dollars (i.e.$22.00, not $22.15!)

Please leave your email address or other method of contact when placing a bid, so that a Paypal invoice can be sent if you are successful.
Thank you in advance for supporting this worthwhile charity and helping to make someone's life a little brighter. Good luck, and happy bidding!
