Weekly Challenge: Sacred/Ancient/Symbolic art....

This week the challenge is to create art inspired by the theme of Sacred/Ancient/Symbolic art.

What could that include?
  • Religious/Spiritual/Sacred art
  • Art inspired by Ancient cultures (Rome, Greece, Celtic...)
  • Symbolic (eg. love, weddings, sacred events, tribal,)
  • Art that expresses meaning or identity to cultures past and present.
  • Anything else that this theme conjures in your imagination.....
Here's some examples....

The two examples above were created by our very own Priti.Lisa

Sita in flames by Jamini, Roy
(courtesey of V&A archives)
Love Anumating Galatea, the Stature of Pygmalion. Howard, Henry

Celtic Heart Claddagh

Stained glass circa 1200

circa 16th century Tibet

Tree of Life

So whether you fancy recreating a masterpiece, using ancient patterns/designs, expressing your interest in a certain culture, drawing a mandala, trying your hand at Celtic knot work, creating a spiritual/religious piece......or I'm sure you have lots of even better ideas. (The links to the sources of the art work I've given as examples also all have lots more images you can browse to get ideas.)

Remember:
  •  The weekly challenge guidelines are in the right hand column >>>>>>>>
  •  Leave a comment on this post with a link to your entry.
  • On Sunday I'll collect up entries and post links and pictures to all submissions to this week's theme.

Wishing you all a happy & creative week!! :-)

What a wonderful theme, Kat! I am intrigued by Lisa D's art always and this will be fun to have a go at it, as well. Fun fun!

It's funny, Lisa D, your art is totally recognizable now. I can pick it out any day of the week. That is a fabulous thing! I love all of it!

I had lots of trouble coming up with something that might fit, even loosely, the theme. Thanks for hosting this week, Kat. This was one difficult challenge that really stretched my imagination.

To top it off, I've not been able to get on blogger for two days, so this is later than I normally post my weekly challenges:
