This is our last challenge for 2011.
Since it is the busiest time of the year,
this challenge will run for 2 weeks.
The deadline will be Sunday, January 1, 2012 at noon.
I wanted this theme to be extra special and meaningful...
something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue
The original saying is from the Victorian Era:
“Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue
and a silver sixpence in her shoe."
As I share the meaning of each item,
“Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue
and a silver sixpence in her shoe."
Traditionally, we think of this as a wedding custom for brides,
but I realized I often used all of these components in my art.
As I share the meaning of each item,
let's use the word Artist in place of Bride.
* Something old symbolizes the artist's connection with her family and her past.
*Something new represents the new life she (the Artist) will soon begin.

*Borrowing an item reminds the Artist that her friends and family are there for her should she ever need their help.
*The color blue symbolizes faithfulness and loyalty.

Love and purity.
As for the sixpence...

As for the sixpence...
A sixpence was a silver coin worth six pennies in England between 1551 and 1967.
The custom was to place it in the left shoe to attract wealth.
(I know this what will be in my left shoe NewYear's Eve:))

I managed to (sort of) get all four into my blog post - if not my art!! Great challenge!
Lisa ... what a lovely theme! and i thought i has such a great energy especially over Christmas!!
Have a very Merry Christmas all :)
xoxoxo
Lisa, you picked a great theme for a challenge especially this time of year when we all tend to reflect on the past, present, and future! I really enjoyed participating--thanks!
I love the idea of this challenge, it's very unusual and leaves so much room for interpretation. As I was browsing the links, I found that people forgot to link to the specific IA post and I couldn't find their old/new/borrowed/blue post. That's too bad cuz I'd like to see and comment on everyone's entry -
Amazing art!
Happy 2012!!
Interesting challenge! Happy new year :)
This is a lovely post so I thought I'd link to it having been playing with my red then blue lady.. Lisa I love your description of old new borrowed blue in terms of the artist.. thus my comment 'artist: creations bride'.. not sure what happened but my first link, links to nothing, so i relinked :-) apologies fro my error, maybe you can adjust that your end by erasing 18 and leaving 19? Welcome 2012! L

I was able to post this last night on a friend's computer, but Mr. Linky was on break. Like Priti Lisa, I didn't give up, so walked to my neighbor's this morning, where the links were finally available to me. Thanks again, Lisa for this awesome challenge. I also tried to use all the prompts in this challenge and my entry.
