Weekly Art Challenge-Grandmother's Attic

My grandmother had an attic at her farmhouse in Salem, Oregon.  When I was little, I'd climb up the ladder and play by myself for hours in the attic.  There was a Revlon doll with lots of homemade dresses that had belonged to one of my cousins.  I loved dressing her up in all of the beautiful costumes that had been made by my aunts and my grandma.

My grandma was from Norway, so she might have had a vintage card like this one.

She made lots of quilts and also crocheted and embroidered.

Wouldn't any child like to come up these stairs and play with all of this stuff?  For that matter, I would love to do it and I'm not a kid!

This week, I thought it would be fun to think about the things you might find in your grandmother's attic.  People seem to store unwanted items up there, but to future generations the forgotten belongings can seem like valuable treasures.

Fan Cluster by Misplaced Mermaid

Here are some pieces of art I found when I searched for the theme "Grandma's Attic."

I'd like to challenge you to share something that this idea evokes in you.  Perhaps it's a feeling, or a collection of objects.  Maybe it's a collage of vintage ephemera.  It might be a portrait of someone you love.  Does it seem like a fun place to explore, or a scary one?

If you'd like some vintage inspiration, including a copy of this ivy and flower border and the fan cluster posted earlier, you can pick up a free download on my blog here.  It's part of the Pixel Scrapper Vintage blog train.  (There's a link to the entire train as well.)  Just be sure to post your entry no later than Sunday, November 11 at 12:00 noon EST.  Have a great week!

Deann-I tried to load it and Mr. Linky wouldn't cooperate. Maybe he's grumpy today.
