Weekly Art Challenge July 29 ~ Time

It’s About Time
This week our art challenge theme is

How do you spend time? How do you feel about the passage of time?
Do you feel too aware of time, or do you not think about it much?
How would you change your use of time if you could?
How would you show time in your art?

Well . . . that's plenty of questions for one week!

Here are some photos with the theme of time.
And some quotes I like, which speak about time much better than I can!

The time you enjoy wasting is not wasted time.
~ Bertrand Russell

Time is a created thing.
To say ‘I don't have time,’ is like saying, ‘I don't want to’.
~ Lao Tzu

The only reason for time is so that
everything doesn't happen at once.
~ Albert Einstein

They always say time changes things,
but you actually have to change them yourself.
~ Andy Warhol

Better never than late.
~ George Bernard Shaw

There's no such thing as aging, but maturing and knowledge.
It's beautiful, I call that beauty.
~ Celine Dion

How did it get so late so soon?
It's night before it's afternoon.
December is here before it's June.
My goodness how the time has flewn.
How did it get so late so soon?
~ Dr. Seuss

I hope you've been inspired to play along with us this week
and create something depicting how you are feeling about time.
Show the past, present or future, or even all three!
As usual, add your blog link to Mr. Linky below.
Please link back to Inspiration Avenue, and
leave a comment if you desire!
All must be completed by noon (eastern time)
on Sunday August 4.
Enjoy the week!

Weekly Challenge July 22-Show and Tell

Hi everyone!  Not too long ago, we provided a challenge I called "Show and Tell."  It was based on the show and tell events some of us had as kids.   When I taught elementary school, I  always enjoyed allowing the kids to share their treasures.  It was such a big deal to them!  Some kids brought toys.

Others shared their beloved pets.

They often brought a favorite book, then asked me to read it aloud.

Show and Tell time was always fun and kids could hardly wait for their turn!

When we hosted a Show and Tell challenge, our followers reacted in a very enthusiastic way.  People shared old work, new work, or just something they loved and wanted to share.  You can see the previous challenge here.

This week, we're inviting you to share a piece of art that you created.  It can be any medium.  The "Show" part is when you link the picture to our blog.  The "Tell" part of the challenge will occur when you leave a comment after linking up.  I can hardly wait to visit everyone's blog to see what you've decided to share.
Mixed Media Self Portrait

Be sure to link up no later than 12:00 noon on July 28, 2013.  But most importantly, this challenge invites you to have fun!  If you're not sure what to share, let your inner child grab hold of some art materials and create away.  You might surprise yourself.

Weekly Challenge July 15-Birthdays

Birthdays!  Whether you love them or hate them, we all have one on a regular basis.

Far Far Hill
I chose this topic because today would have been my mother's 79th birthday.
I found some old cards she would have loved.
Far Far Hill
She was born on July 15, 1934 in a rural farmhouse in Corning, Iowa.  My grandfather picked a bouquet of pink clover to give to my grandmother.
I always think of her when I see pansies.  But yellow roses were her flower of choice.

Little Birdie Blessings

I found some intriguing mixed media birthday art on the internet that I wanted to share.  I hope these pieces will provide some inspiration.

Many people have an age they really love, or one that they fear.  My mom said that turning 60 was no big deal but 70 really threw her for a loop.  I'm only 7 years away from 60 myself so we'll soon see if I have the same experience.

I love the quote used in this piece.

Lots of people find ways to celebrate birthdays with a party.  They make people wear funny hats.

They blow up lots of balloons.
Su Hall
They even make loud noises.

Many people love going to parties, even when the guest of honor is a stranger.

My favorite thing about birthdays is cake.  I love the white sheet cakes with the custard filling.  My husband loves angel food cake.  My mother hated angel food because that's what she had for every birthday as a kid.   I think any kind of cake is appropriate for any occasion.  This one has zero calories.

Well, I must confess something here.  I love presents too.  I love to give presents and I love to receive presents.  I especially love it when a gift is wrapped in a really pretty package.   I wouldn't even care what was inside if I received this as a present.  Isn't it wonderful?

So, what is there about birthdays that inspires you to create?    In order to participate in this challenge, your artwork needs to be linked up by noon next Sunday, July 21 EST.  The sky is the limit here!
Just for today, I'd like to end with one more little birthday card for my mom.   I'm going to celebrate in some way today and I would love to have you do the same.  After all, it is Norma's birthday.

Weekly Challenge July 8 ~ Words

A Way with Words

Our challenge this week is to use words in a piece of art.

Printed words, handwritten words, typed words.
Words from books, newspapers, magazines.
Cut-out words, hand-lettered words, stamped words.
Any kind of words!

Here are some pieces that have incorporated words in the design.

Words add an extra bit of dimension to the layers
on a page, especially in mixed media work.
The words can be relatively meaningless and just add some texture,
or be more relevant to the piece as in this dictionary page which
includes the words "alarm clock".

Have fun with a bit of mixed media or collage!

We’ll LOVE to see what you come up with this week using
printed pages or just words that are especially dear to your heart!

As always, link up below with Mr. Linky by Sunday July 14.
Link back to Inspiration Avenue in your blog post.
Then, show some love and leave a kind word
at the blogs of the participating artists!
(We'd be so happy if you'd leave a comment here too)

Most of all, have fun and get creative!
