Creativity and Cats

Happy Monday everyone!  Lately I've been busy with helping rescue dogs and cats from overcrowded shelters.  It's been a tiring but awesome three weeks.  If you're interested you can check out my special Facebook page here.  During that time I managed to help rescue quite a few cats and only adopted one myself.  Well, that doesn't count the two kittens I'm fostering and feeding with a baby bottle.  That's why this week's challenge is about Cats.
It's amazing how many cats there are in art.
Some of the great masters painted cats.
The Impressionists found cats to be interesting models.

Cats have appeared in many works of art.

Not all of the artwork was serious.  I love seeing art with a sense of humor.

This collaboration took 28 attempts before the final shot.  Anyone who knows cats will know that there were some grumpy cats in the studio at the end of this day.

Inspiration Avenue's Maggie painted this beautiful mixed media  piece.
You can see it for sale in her Etsy shop.

I simply couldn't resist wandering around on Etsy because I know that we all need lots of varied inspiration.  Some of you are painters and others make assemblages, art dolls, or sculptures.  There are those of us who take photographic images and rework them digitally and there are doodlers who make magic with their pens and pencils.    Here are a few more samples to get you started.

Now I've got to go give the kittens another bottle but I hope you'll all be inspired to create something about cats.  Directions for participating are on the sidebar.  Just be sure you post by 12:00 noon EST on Sunday, May18.  I hope you all have fun with this one.  I know I will.

Water Challenge May 5

Water
the chemical compound that covers over 70% of the Earth's surface.
The substance that we cannot live without.

The earth is a closed system, similar to a terrarium,

meaning that it rarely loses or gains extra matter.

The same water that existed on the earth

millions of years ago is still present today.

The challenge this week is a simple one.
Create something using water as your inspiration.

So many words come to mind when thinking about water . . .

Fish, mermaids, fountains, rain, seaweed, Neptune, ducks, submarines!

Drinking, sailing, floating, bathing, swimming, splashing . . .

I found many interesting facts about water:

Taking a bath requires up to 70 gallons of water!
A five-minute shower uses 10 to 25 gallons.

Water boils quicker in Denver, Colorado than in New York City.

There is more fresh water in the atmosphere than
in all of the rivers on the planet combined.

By the time a person feels thirsty, his or her body
has lost over 1 percent of its total water amount.

Water is the only substance found on earth
naturally in three forms: solid, liquid, and gas.

The weight of water that women in Africa and Asia carry
on their heads is commonly 40 pounds.

Trivial facts are fun and interesting, but there is a serious side
to water and the lack of it. The water of the world is not
distributed equally and there are devastating consequences
to those who do not have access to enough of it.

Lack of access to clean water and sanitation kills children
at a rate equivalent to a jumbo jet crashing every four hours.

Every day in rural communities and poor urban centers throughout
sub-Saharan Africa, hundreds of millions of people
suffer from a lack of access to clean, safe water.

Women and girls especially bear the burden of walking miles
at a time to gather water from streams and ponds.
Streams and ponds full of water-borne disease
that make them and their families sick.

Illness from drinking dirty water and the time lost fetching it
robs entire communities of their futures.

So, get creative and show us how water inspires you!
I can't wait to see your art!
Deadline is Sunday, May 11 by noon eastern.

This reminds me, Sunday, May 11 is Mother's Day in the U.S.
♥ ♫♫♫♫ Happy Mother's Day to all you moms! ♫♫♫♫ ♥
